Nicola Meiring of Tressy Club not only has a great eye but is also an experienced and talented illustrator based in London, England. Tressy is a unique brand of minimal kids’ clothing that brings together a contemporary aesthetic that isn’t often seen in the children’s wear market.
1) What sparked your interest in Kids Fashion?
When my daughter was born in 2011, we lived in South Africa and the range of kids’ clothes was extremely limited. The only place you could really shop was in local retail stores and they offered nothing special. We had always travelled back and forth to England and I remember being excited over a GAP or Zara kids store. Later on, Instagram came along and I started finding small shops. They ran a rep searches and I entered Charlotte. I was over the moon that she was chosen as a rep and my love for kids’ fashion started.
2) What's your favorite quote/mantra that you live by?
Just to do what you love and you’ll always do it well.
3) What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your business?
My biggest lesson has been to manage my time. It’s so hard to juggle everything in a day. What I never expected when starting Tressy was the amount of emails and DM’s I’d be getting everyday. Just small things like, what size people should get or wholesale questions. It seems like such a small thing, but it can really consume a lot of time. Running a kids fashion brand is certainly not only about designing beautiful clothes and doing exciting shoots, there is so much communication that needs to happen and it’s honestly not my strong point.

4) What advice would you give to aspiring women entering the industry?
I would just say do it! I procrastinated for ages before actually taking the plunge into getting things made. I changed designs and logos a hundred times. It took us a full year to get something out there and looking back, it could have been done a lot quicker, but my worries of being unsuccessful were endless.

5) What the next big step for your business? What can we expect to see in the near future?
Releasing your second range can be more daunting than the first. People have an expectation now of what Tressy is and I hope to keep that expectation up for everyone. Our next range will be out soon though and we have done an exciting collaboration with a big Instagram creative and something coming out that’s not a piece of clothing!
