Design Life Kids is a carefully curated collection of children's fashion, accessories, toys and decor for the modern aesthetic loving family. Originally a blog, Design Life Kids now focuses on high quality, modern design in an exclusive shop featuring local boutique designers and internationally adored brands.
In 2014, after a life changing event, founder, Kim Wardell decided to live out a dream and began DLK. She mixes her passion for modern decor and curates beautiful fashion and home accessories with the same design principle.
We decided to highlight all the wonderful women we admire and collaborate with on a daily basis by starting an interview series, Inspired By Her. We're elated to have Kim Wardell as our first guest. She's ever-inspiring and fantastic to work with!
1) What sparked your interest in Kids Fashion?
I love design in general. Fashion, furniture, decor... I find them all to be exciting and love learning about the people who make them. I love how kids are so naturally open and expressive and I think it's pretty amazing to see how their personalities and style changes throughout the years. Fashion let's them have another sense of self expression and I adore seeing that in my girls.
2) What's your favorite quote/mantra that you live by?
Find the beauty in every day.
Life comes with so many ups and downs, but there is so much magic in the little things that surround us and the actions we take. It's incredibly easy to be sad and let things bring you down, but I think it's important to soak in that moment and then refocus. It's much more enjoyable to focus on the things that make you smile. The mundane, the complicated, it's all special if you stop and take a minute to appreciate it.
3) What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your business?
Stay true to yourself and your style. It's easy to stray and pick pieces that "sell" or are "familiar", but it's a whole lot more fun to search and find something new to fall in love with and share. I hope that our customers can see that passion and interest in the pieces that we have at DLK.
4) What advice would you give to aspiring women entering the industry?
Start small, but dream big. If you're not a little bit nervous, you're not pushing yourself enough out of your comfort zone!
5) What the next big step for your business? What can we expect to see in the near future?
Ah, well.... we'll just have to wait and see
We definitely can't wait to see what Kim has in store for next! Stay tuned in every Friday for another great interview with another great woman!
